Jumla Airport
In the year 2020, King Mahendra set out on foot from Surkhet. He set out on a journey to Rara Lake, trying to make Jumla, which was very difficult to reach and completely away from traffic, comfortable.
The construction of an airport under the special leadership of King Mahendra began when other alternatives to transportation were not immediately possible in a geographically difficult place like Jumla. The people of Jumla were overjoyed to hear that the airport would be built and the capital and Nepalgunj could be easily reached.
It was impossible to get big vehicles to get there. Therefore, the hardworking hands of the locals worked to clear the land and break the stones. The people agreed.
Birendra, who became the new king after the ascension of King Mahendra in January 2028 BS, held a program of meeting and interacting directly with the people of the villages after the accession to the throne. King Virendra chose Jumla for the launch of this program. He had reached Jumla with the intention of starting from the most difficult place. The first arrival of the King's helicopter took place at the newly constructed airport. This was also the first visit outside the capital since becoming king. The people of Jumla were very happy when they chose Jumla as their first visit after becoming the king.
Shortly after this, the airport was opened to the public a week before the establishment of the decade of 2029 BS, i.e. from 15 September 2029 BS.
After the establishment of this airport, it got close to the most backward Karnali zonal capital of the country. But it did not see much development. The Karnali region is still lagging behind for a number of reasons.
