 1. Geographical condition of the district

28° 58 'to 29°30' North latitude, 81° 51 'to 82 ° 18' East longitude 2531 sq. Km. Jumla is one of the five remote mountainous districts in the Karnali region. Despite being geographically remote, Jumla district has an important identity in history. Before the unification of the state of Nepal, Jumla was considered as the birthplace of Nepali language and culture. The fact is that Jumla was a prosperous and powerful state in the Middle Ages.



In Khalanga, the district headquarters, it is said that Chandannath Baba and two other celibates from India first settled in ancient times and spread agriculture and education. Legend has it that the district was named Jumla because of the confluence of the two Jumlaha rivers, Tila and Jawa, from the north and east. Although remote and inaccessible in terms of transportation, communication and modernization, Jumla can be considered as a district rich in natural resources and culture, adorned with beautiful glowing mountain peaks, lakes and innumerable natural rivers. The district is bordered by Dolpa to the east, Kalikot to the west, Mugu to the north and Jajarkot to the south. The district is politically divided into Constituency 1, Napa 1, VDC. It is divided into 26 and 9 areas.


Demographic details:

According to the National Census 2068, the population of this district has reached 1,08921. There are 14691 (14%) children under 5 years of age, 13208 (12%) adolescents aged 10-19 years, 25757 (24%) women of reproductive age (15-49) years of age. The economically active population (15-49) is 57814 (53%) and 6018 (5.5%) are elderly (60 years and above). According to the Nepal Human Development Report 2014, Jumla district is ranked 62nd out of 75 districts with a score of 0.409. The average age is 63 years and literacy is 44%, with a per capita income of US आम्दानी 1,007 per year.


Major foodgrains:

The major food crops of Jumla district are maize, millet, barley, paddy, wheat, kaguno, chino, fapar and uva which are the highest grown fruits in the world while the fruits include apple, okhar, khurpani, aru and arubkhada. Bean, soybean, potato, carrot, corn, saffron, gucci mushroom, bee keeping, sheep and goat rearing are the best sources of cash income. Similarly low weight and high priced vegetable seed production especially cauliflower, radish, rye, carrot, swisschard are the crops of national and international competitive and comparative advantage in this district.

Hima river

Kanjirova is a major river that flows southwards through the entire Sinja region, starting at the foot of the mountain. This river has irrigated most of the land in Sinja area. Considered important from the point of view of irrigation, drinking water and electricity generation, this river is considered to be the basic aspect of the development of Sinja civilization.

Tila river

It is one of the major rivers of Nepal. The Tila River is one of the tributaries of the Karnali River. The Tila River is found to be bordered by various tributaries, small Tila rivers. Since the land on the right bank of this river is more fertile, there have been many settlements around it since ancient times. The river has been used extensively for irrigation, running of ghats and even for drinking. The river is important in the development of Jumla district. There are small rivers, streams and lakes flowing in this area due to melting snow.

Juwa river

Chumchaur, Patarasi, Dillichaur, Patmara flowing from Kanjirova Himal located in Patarasi VDC of Jumla district. Irrigation of NPA is mixed with Tila river in Dan Sagu Triveni. The name of the river is Java river.


Major religious and tourist sites

Shri Chandannath Temple, Shri Bhairavnath Temple, Shri Darwarmalika Temple, Shri Kanakasundari Temple, Shri Chimara Malika Bhagwati Temple, Shri Shiva Temple, Shri Thakurju Temple, Bhandar Forest, Sisne Himal, Patarasi Himal, Rara National Park, Sinjakshetra, Virat Durbar, Tatopani, Gothichaur, Horticultural Apple and Vegetable Farm, Karnali Technical School Area, Hudke Daha and Pandava Caves are the religious, historical and tourist sites in the district.


Chandannath Temple:

The Chandannath Temple is located in front of the District Administration Office in the district headquarters of Jumla. The temple of Chandannath Baba is famous for its Burmese Vishnu and Shiva incarnations of Shri Datratreya's Charan Paduka and silver trimukhi idols. It has historical religious significance. In this temple, dance worship is performed by the chief priest every day. Twenty-two hand lingas are erected in the temple premises of Chandannath Baba on the day of Ghatsthapana every year. Guru Datratreya and Bhairav ​​are believed to have been established since the Satya Yuga. Based on the local geography, geo-physical condition and the scholarly and historical beliefs, etc., Shri Chandannath Baba identified the drowning Datra Paduka in Chhinasim.

Important activities such as management of paddy and cultivation of paddy in Jumla are estimated to have taken place between the 4th and 15th centuries of Bikram. The management committee for the management of this Chandannath temple is appointed by Guthi Sansthan. There is enough land for the operation of this temple.


Virat Darwar:

There is a legend that there was a palace of Virat Raja on the hill at the north-western head of Virat VDC located in Sinja area of ​​Julla district during the Dhapar era. The Pandava Cave is located to the southwest of the same palace. Legend has it that five brothers, including Pandava, who were chased away by the Kauravas during the Pandava Kaurava war, stayed in the palace of the great king for a year in various guises. At that time, various archeological materials used by the Pandava and Virat kings were found. At present, only the ruins of the huge palace remain due to the lack of dilapidation in the historical area.

Bhairavnath

      Vatuk is called Bhairavnath as it appeared from the womb of Shri Bhairavnath Batu, a reputed Tantric deity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva in the form of Dattatreya. No reliable material has been found on the timing of the establishment of Dattatreya and Bhairav ​​in Jumla.

Chimaramalika

Chimaramalika The temple of Chimaramalika Bhagwati located in the border area of ​​Gajyankot and Dillichaur VDCs of Jumla district has been built by Dhungaidhunga. The people of Jumla worship together on the day of Chaturdashi of the temple. The Neupane family of Khallalwada has been living in the temple since time immemorial. Chirammalika is delightful from the point of view of religious tourism. Bhagwati's linga is erected on the day of Malika Chaturdashi. A historical area of ​​religious and tourist importance, situated between the Tila and Juwa rivers, from where the Jumla district and various neighboring districts can be seen.


Kanakasundari

Located in Kankasundari VDC in Jumla district, the Kankasundari temple is famous as a religious and tourist destination. There is a legend that Shiva Bagh, who jumped on four stones in the temple during the last 24 state times, fell directly from the sky to the place and the idol of the temple has jumped on the stones. It is believed that there is a tradition of worshiping goats on the day of the return of the teams from Jumla district to the temple after worshiping Goddess Bhagwat

Thakur Jew

Kumar Kartike, the eldest son of Lord Shiva, Parvati and Ganga, came to Nepal on a pilgrimage to Dhumfir. At the same time, there is a belief that Kartik Kumar, who is located in the border area of ​​Julla district and Jajarkot district, will get the bridegroom's gift according to his wishes. There is a belief that it will be fulfilled and it seems to be famous in the world in terms of tourism. Khali Patan

This Patan Further can be developed as picnic spot during summer and playing snow skating  during Winter season as the whole patan is covered with snow during this season. This patan can be used as rearing medicinal herbs. As this beautiful patan comes in way while going Rara Lake so it can be used as night Camp. 

Places of commercial importance

The main trading center of this district is Jumla-Khalanga Bazaar and some other small traders. The centers are as follows: - Talium, Tatopani, Nagma, Narakot, Hatisanja, Urthu Chautara, Dillichaur, Chautha, Manisanghu. Khalanga Bazaar is the headquarters of Karnali Zone and also the headquarters of Jumla District and the education, health and business center of the region.


Sija area

The place of origin of Nepali language is Sinja region. The area is 19 km away from the district headquarters. It is characterized by historical, tourist, religious and cultural diversity. It is found that the river flows uninterruptedly from the base of Kanjirova mountain. The origin of the Khas language in various Jumla districts as well as historical linguistic and traditional values ​​are also found to have historical significance in the region. During the 24th reign, Sinja was a powerful state occupying a large area. It is a fact that this region, which is economically, socially and culturally capable, has diplomatic relations with the neighboring countries.

Nagma

The land at the foot of the Nagbeli hill on the border of Jumla and Calicut is called Namma. The place is known as the confluence of Hima river and Jawa Tila from Sijawat. The construction of Nagma Gamgadi road section from Nagma area has facilitated traffic in nine VDCs of Sija and Mugu.


Narakot

Narakot, located in the center of nine VDCs in Sinja region, is important and scenic from a tourist point of view. There are government area level offices in that place.

Hatsinja

The area located in Kankasundari VDC of Jumla district is called Hatsinja. During the 24th reign, the area was known as Hatsinja as the Muguwat Bhotes brought sheep from Liu and traded with them.


Urthuchaurata

Gothichaur

Gothichaur is famous for its scenic beauty and tourism. The name of the area has been changed to Gothichaur as the herds of cattle graze in Guthichaur. A sheep and goat research council has been established in Gothichaur in the year 2028 BS. Advanced breeds of sheep have been brought from New Zealand and a sheep farm has been set up and processed.

Manisangu

Manisangu is a place where the Chotra River flows and the Nalapani River flows. There are education, health, livestock, police post and VDC building in the area. Gadigaun settlement to the east of Manisangu, Dillikot settlement to the west, Chotra settlement to the northeast and Manigaun settlement to the northwest. Jumla is considered to be an important place in terms of tourism as well as an important market and accommodation along the Dolpa road section.


Dillichaur

A place with large fields and cultivable land is called Dillichaur. In Dillichaur VDC, there are Thirkhu slum, Dolphani slum, Lugri slum and Lorpa slum. Maize, potato, bean and sorghum are the major crops grown here. Dor Bahadur Bista has brought some change in the living standard of the people of Dillichaur VDC by establishing Karnali Input at Dolkani.
